1998年至2004年先后在日本分子科学研究所、东京大学、京都大学、香港中文大学、香港科技大学做访问教授。
2004年至今担任天津市金属与分子基材料化学重点实验室主任
教育部领军人才、国家杰出青年基金获得者、新世纪首批“百千万人才工程”国家级人选、教育部跨世纪人才、天津市授衔专家、天津市首批杰出人才、教育部创新团队及国家基金委创新群体负责人及学术带头人、英国皇家化学会会士(FRSC)。2014年获国家自然科学二等奖(第一完成人),2002和2011年两次获天津市自然科学一等奖(均为第一完成人)。2017年入选天津市优秀科技工作者。2018年获天津市自然科学特等奖(第一完成人)。2021年当选中国科学院院士。
